Fortify! and Shoreline Solidarity Get Res 560 Protecting Immigrants Agendized and Passed in Two Weeks
Feb 23, 2026 (Shoreline, WA): The last three weeks saw an ideal Fortify! WA mini-campaign with the fast-growing Shoreline Solidarity group: We show up en masse to make an ask at the Feb 9th, ’26 City Council public comment, setting a deadline of two weeks. We follow-up. Our ask was agendized just over a week later. At the next, Feb 23rd, meeting we show up en mass to support the agenda item. It passes.
It was, of course, changed by city staff to work for the city, so it’s not exactly what we asked for, but we knew it wouldn’t be and it left out very little of what we requested. This is why we always include what we asked for vs what we got in our reporting out of results (see below).
At the end of the day, however, it is a solid win, even including some improvements in language.
This was the Fortify! process in ideal form (based on the Midwest Academy model of direct action organizing). It also illustrated the power of translating mutual-aid community-building into political power. The whole process from ask to passage was an astonishingly swift two weeks.
It doesn’t get much better than that.
And the even bigger victory? Many of the folks who came out to City Council did so for the first time, and almost immediately there was talk of folks considering running for city council in the future.
This is how we get folks engaged at the beginning of the political pipeline to work for long-term systems change.
