Monday, Aug 17th, at their 7 pm meeting, the Shoreline City Council will vote on proposed Resolution 567 to oppose Brian Heywood’s terrible initiatives, as originally requested at the Shoreline Pride Raising event.
Mountlake Terrace will also be taking up this resolution on Sept 3rd (CM Sam Doyle leading). This is a chance to show both councils that the community supports them taking this stand against Brian Heywood’s bigotry and extremism.
Help us mobilize supporters to show the Shoreline City Council that we support them taking this stand. You can also provide online public comment by 4 pm day-of (Aug 17th). This is a great opportunity to see local direct action organizing in action, if you’re new to it!
Tacoma also passed its own resolution a couple of weeks ago, setting an excellent precedent, and Mountlake Terrace CM Sam Doyle let CM Chris Eck (Edmonds) and Isabel Mata (Lynnwood) know about Fortify!/No Hate endeavor. Councilmember Jon Culver (Kenmore) and Mayor Sarah Arndt (Woodinville) have also shown interest. The No Hate campaign has also contacted Seattle CM Dionne Foster.
The more local community members who organize to support these efforts to pass local resolutions, the more likely they are to happen! See how it worked back in February with Shoreline Res560.
